FAQ's
- Can domains be registered for individual periods?
The standard time period gives you
the following rules: The first registration of a domain
for two years and every renewal for one year. We can
offer you the following options: The first registration
for two years is mandatory, after that you can choose
a registration period between one and ten years in
one-year-steps. If you don't ask for anything, the
standard will be applied.
- Am I allowed to use my own nameservers?
Yes.
- Which requirements do my nameservers have to meet?
They should be connected to the
web perfectly at the time of the domain order and
it would be nice to have two nameservers of different
class-c net segments.
- What handle can I use? Is a NSI-, Ripe- or CORE-handle o.k.?
No, the Nic AG uses its own handles
but they aren't public so far.
- How do I become a reseller and a member?
Ask for further information after
having sent your reseller documents. Please notice
that becoming a reseller is interesting only if you
think that you sell more then 24 domains per year.
- Will I own the domain until I die?
No. A domain is something
you rent for a fee from the responsable NIC. It
is like living in an appartment someone else owns
and you rent monthly. The NIC is justified to withdraw
your rights even without giving a reason but this
will probably not happen. A possible reason could
be the publication of criminal contents.
The fact that you do not buy a domain is the reason
for the renewal fees you have to pay once a year.
This is neccessitated by the monthly costs and
maintainance that the NIC has to cover.
- Why can't I use ä, ö, ü or ß?
The text of a computer is based
on 265 characters in a table, the so-called ASCII-code
(American Standard Code for Information Interchange).
Only the first 127 characters are defined and the
following 128 characters can be used by individual countries
for their specific purposes. The first 127 characters include the alphabet
with lower case and upper case letters but also characters
like "+", "-", "/" etc. but unfortunately no "Umlaute"
since it's the "American Standard Code ..." and
the Americans hardly consider the interests of foreign
countries except when they have a financial or political
reason to do so. To be fair, we have to admit that
all the special characters of other countries will not
fit within the limit of 127 signs. The short message
that is hiden here: No country-specific signs or
characters beyond 127 are allowed, no matter whether it's an
"Umlaut", a ligature, an accent or the tilde since
they are not part of the ASCII-code and the first 127
characters.
- How is the connection to Antigua? Are there any problems
with the band-width?
The connection to Antigua is realised
by Cable and Wireless and is quite o.k. For you as a
Europeen customer this is not important because the
main nameservers and mirrors are located in Europe
therefore no speed- or connection problems should occur.
- I only want to use the e-mail! Is that possible?
Yes, since it is not important
for the NIC whether you show content on your
webpage or not.
- Where else can I get .ag-Domains?
At the NIC AG itself and every
other reseller, who isn't afraid of the work.
- I'm not satisfied with my ISP. How do I get out?
You tell your actual provider
that you want to get out so he can provide you with
a final invoice and delete your domains from his
servers. You tell us at Euro-Nic.AG where to locate
your domain now and ask your new provider to
make all the neccessary arrangements.
- Someone wants to buy my domain. Is that possible?
Selling domains is something some
people have problems with but we don't. The old
owner-c gives us the whole data of the new owner-c
and we provide you with everything else.
- I want to buy a domain of someone else. How do I do that?
First you have to find out who
is owner-c of the domain you want to buy. You can
do this by looking at the content of the domain
or you can ask us. After that you have to ask the owner-c
if he is interested in selling.
- What is included in the US $290.00?
The reservation of the domain for
two years and if you like the nameserver-service
on our nameservers.
- If I make a domain reservation, does the domain work already?
No, since you first have to locate
it on a webserver that the nameserver can point to. It's
almost the same with e-mail.
- Why should I reserve a domain?
Because ...
- you have interesting knowledge you want to make public,
- you want to deal through the Internet,
- your actual work should be presented in the internet, too,
- you don't have your own e-mail yet,
- you have a superb idea you want to realize in half
a year and you want to make sure no-one else takes the
domain you need, because he has the same idea,
- everybody follows new trends and you don't want
a domain like "joe-smith-detroit-mi.com" or
"my-domain-is-way-longer-than-your-domain.net",
- a part of your personal database should be
available for you even if you're not at home and you
want to access by a browser.
- What else do I have to pay for?
The renewal costs and the money your
provider requests for hosting your domain. This
could be e.g. US $5.00 per month including 10MB
capacity and 1GB free traffic every month and
5 real POP3 e-mail-addresses.
- How do I delete a domain name?
You send us the order with which you ordered
your domain and insert the "D" for "delete domain" instead
of the "N" for "new domain". Your domain will
be deleted as soon as possible and without any costs to you.
